The PREPARE study (PREemptive Pharmacogenomic Testing for Preventing Adverse Drug REactions), investigated the use of a drug passport that includes genotyping of 12 genes and 50 genetic variants that affect how drugs are broken down in the body.<\/p>\n

The study, which involved 6,944 patients from seven European countries, suggests that the use of a personalised drug passport can reduce the number of adverse drug reactions in the treatment of depression by 30%.<\/span><\/p>\n

Funding took place under the European Horizon 2020 research and innovation program. The UPGx consortium received a grant of 14.5 million euros for the project. “Horizon 2020” is the largest research and innovation program of the European Union and aims to promote innovation and scientific excellence in Europe.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The results of the study underline the importance of pharmacogenetic analysis for the prevention of adverse drug reactions and show that individualised medication based on the patient’s genetic predisposition leads to better treatment outcomes. <\/p>\n
